WP1 - Standards for coupling models under uncertainty
To create the uncertainty enabled model web we are extending the UncertML candidate standard created in the INTAMAP project to provide a complete probabilistic encoding for uncertainty. As part of this work, we are reviewing the requirements to account for the range of model inputs and outputs, and considering alternative representations of uncertainty such as imprecise probabilities.
The revised UncertML model, which will include support for a range of probabilistic representations of uncertainty will be taken through the standardisation process within the Open Geospatial Consortium and possibly the World Wide Web Consortium, W3C.
To help users employ the UncertML encoding we will develop an Application Programmers Interface for UncertML to allow easy reading and writing of UncertML documents and some basic processing. The processing will include simple conversions between the different UncertML representations, for example going from the description of a probability distribution to a set of realisations, or samples, from the probability distribution.
